Fab Fall Weekend

My Mom came into town this past weekend for a visit. While she was here, Dave and I stole away for an overnighter down in San Diego. After checking into our hotel (and unbeknownst to us scoring an amazing view of the harbor and downtown San Diego), we headed out for dinner. We were given recommendations for a place in La Jolla and were not disappointed. The view of the coast was stunning, the "california modern" menu fabulous and the ambience perfect...romantic and very relaxing. After dinner, we strolled past shops and restaurants around La Jolla. Then we strolled once again down by the water. After enjoying breakfast in bed the next morning (really?), we decided to check out a National Monument we saw signs for before we headed home. We're really glad we did, the Cabrillo National Monument is located on a peninsula that has amazing views of San Diego Bay. The monument is named for Juan Rodgriquez Cabrillo, he and his crew were the first Europeans to set foot on what would later become the west coast of the United States. In addition, on the drive into the monument you pass the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. I felt like I was on a mini-version of my trip to D.C. :) And on the drive home I had to take a picture of the San Diego Temple that is so beautifully visible from the freeway. It was SO great to spend some much-needed time away together. We almost didn't know what to do with ourselves at first, but quickly found our groove and enjoyed every minute...

My Mom was able to join us for Family Home Evening at Disneyland yesterday since she didn't fly back until today. It was "Halloween Time" at Disneyland and we had a blast! We made sure we went by Mickey's House and said "hi". :) We rode a ton of rides and got an awesome spot for the "Parade of Dreams". And of course we hit Sonic on the way home, I think it's tradition now when we go to D-land. :)

The most humorous highlight of the weekend, though, was Dylan making his debut performance on the mic in his first Sacrament Meeting Primary Program on Sunday. He added some panache to his line by giving a grand thumbs up for emphasis, it was both a proud and hilarious moment for Mom and Dad. :)

And no weekend with a visitor in our home in the fall would be complete without a spread of pumpkin goodies...we had pumpkin muffins, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin chocolate chip squares waiting for Grandma when she came. Yummmmm...
